Architects – Manchester Academy: Gig Review

A packed to the rafters Manchester Academy, repeatedly bellowing out “Architects”, the first night of the Brighton metal-core outfit’s biggest tour to date, a monumental step up for the lads, so the question was, could they deliver?

Of course they could.

After impressive sets from support acts Landscapes, Northlane and particularly, Stray From The Path, Architects took to the stage and wasted no time in giving the new album material it’s live debut, holding nothing back as they exploded into ‘Gravedigger’ as if they had been performing the new track for years.

‘C.A.N.C.E.R’, ‘Naysayer’, ‘ The Devil is Near’, and ‘Colony Collapse’ also got they’re live baptisms in a set that was massively focused around the new album ‘Lost Forever // Lost Together’. Well, who can blame them after just bringing out such an incredible album,? And the new material went down an absolute treat with the electric crowd that belted out the lyrics word for word, despite the album only being streamed online over the last couple of weeks. There was still space for a few classic fan favorites though, ‘Follow the Water’ and ‘Early Grave’ both getting an outing for the fans who’ve been around since the ‘Hollow Crown’ album days.

The band were clearly taken aback by the unbelievable atmosphere of the sold out crowd, taking a minute in between every few songs to truly appreciate how far they had come. The sheer magnitude of this gig was completely uncharted territory and something extremely special for the band, which was blatantly obvious. But nerves didn’t seem to creep in even slightly, in fact this only spurred the band to pull out all the stops and put on an unbelievable show.

Positives – Sam Carter’s voice has massively improved & new material sounds awesome live
Negatives – Not many older, classic songs played
